Ozark Explorer Off Trail Hikes

There are still places here in the Ozarks where you can hike off trail. Vast forest teeming with wildlife. Hundreds of thousands of acres of tall ridges and deep hollows that offer hidden wonders for those willing to explore off the beaten path. We call hiking off trail "Bushwhacking". This is as good as hiking gets. Most of the places mentioned in the stories below are probably visited by less than 50 people a year. Some, much less than that.

Finding Arkansas Waterfalls

In October 2008 we went deeper into the Leatherwood Wilderness to explore three more waterfalls.

In March 2005 we took our first trip to the Leatherwood Wilderness to find over one dozen scenic waterfalls in Arkansas.

Moonshiners Still

An off trail bushwhack at the Mincy Wildlife Reserve turns up what may be an old moonshiners still site.

Twin Falls at Richland Creek

Follow us for a middle of the winter bushwhack to Twin Falls at Richland Creek.

The Falls at Hideout Hollow

There is a short trail to the top of Hideout Hollow Falls that is a popular dayhike for many hikers. We took the much less traveled path instead.

The Baldknobber Cave

It somehow seems fitting that we should try and locate one of the "Baldknobber Hideout Caves" on our first off trail adventure. This was a fun little "Bushwhack" of a hike and I'm willing to bet that not too many of you will follow my footsteps. Yes, this is a challenge! Go out there and prove me wrong!
